10% ‘forward quota’ in Gujarat from today – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat on Sunday became the first state in the country to announce that it would implement the 10% reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) of the general category in government jobs and higher education from January 14 – Makar Sankranti Day, chief minister Vijay Rupani tweeted.

A government circular is yet to be issued, though. Later, Gujarat Public Service Commission chairman Dinesh Dasa tweeted, saying it would postpone state civil service exams, slated for January 20.

The 10% quota will be implemented in all recruitments where advertisements have been published but the first stage of exam is yet to be held, Rupani said.

Later, a government statement said the ongoing process would be suspended and a fresh course would begin after incorporating the 10% additional quota. However, the 10% quota would not be applicable in cases where the process of recruitment – like written, oral, computer proficiency or preliminary tests – had begun before January 14.
