Arcade gaming warehouse with cult classics and modern favourites to open this weekend – Grimsby Live

A gaming arcade will have something for both retro and modern gamers when it opens this weekend.

The Arcade Warehouse will be Scunthorpe’s first eSports centre.

It will have classic arcade machines like PacMan and Space Invaders alongside state-of-the-art gaming equipment.

Partners Caton Airey and Dan Rees have spent months building the centre in their technology company PCSCuk Support on Mannaberg Way.

They can’t wait to see gamers let loose on it when doors open on Saturday.

Caton said: “It’s really got something for gamers of all ages. There are older machines like the Atari and PlayStation 1s, and newer Virtual Reality set-ups and gaming PCs.

“Retro games have really come back into fashion lately. People love to play the cult classics that were ahead of their time.

“It has been quite difficult to find some of the collectors’ items, but we’ve got a great range including favourites like the original Star Wars trilogy arcade machine, the Sega Rally games and the original Tron.

“It’s fantastic to see these 30-year-old machines powered up and people have fun on them again.

“We’ve even got traditional manual games, and 65 inch touch screens for younger children to play games on.”

Players will be able to have a go on air hockey tables, pool tables, 10 state-of-the-art eSports gaming PCs and a massive 140-inch screen showing live streams.

The Scunthorpe arcade is promising everything from cult classics such as Super Mario, Space Invaders and Pacman to modern favourites such as Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto and Fallout.

Competitive online games – known as eSports – will also play a big role.

Caton says he hopes to provide Scunthorpe families and younger people a great day out without needing to leave the town.

He added: “eSports are now absolutely huge – it has had such a huge rise in popularity over the last few years and I think the quality of gaming is a big reason why.

“But some of the games are very expensive. Here, you can come and pay very little to play these games and experience all the latest technology.”

There will be modern gaming PCs with favourites like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto

Online booking has now opened for the Arcade Warehouse on its website.

The entertainment centre will be open seven days a week.

A two hour session will cost £7 per person, and parties can book out the entire arcade with all machines on free play.

It was originally scheduled to be open in April but was delayed due to the coronavirus, and plans for a launch party had to be cancelled.

Customers will be limited to 20 people at once to allow for social distancing. The owners say that this will reviewed as government announcements are made.
