It’s a sad day in the state of Texas.

Former Longhorns star Cedric Benson has died following a motorcycle accident in West Austin late Saturday night.

He was 36.

Multiple Austin news outlets, including CBS Austin, reported the accident as one involving a motorcycle and an automobile reported to be a minivan. Austin-Travis County EMS reported a male and a female, both in their 30s, were declared deceased on the scene. Sources have told Horns247 that the deceased male in the accident in Benson.

Additionally, the Austin American-Statesman cited information from Austin emergency officials investigating the crash that they “had information that Benson and a passenger were killed.”

Behind only Ricky Williams in Texas football lore at the running back position, Benson rushed for 5,540 yards, 64 touchdowns and managed 25 games of 100 or more yards rushing efforts. Benson racked up over 49 games while tallying a school-record 1,112 rushing attempts.
