Fire At MTNL Building In Mumbai’s Bandra, Around 100 Trapped On Terrace – NDTV News

Mumbai:

A huge fire broke out in a building in Mumbai’s Bandra West area on Monday afternoon, forcing dozens of people to take shelter on the terrace. Around 100 people were feared trapped on the terrace of the building, which houses the state-run telecom company MTNL. At least 14 fire engines are at the spot to douse the level-four fire.

A rescue operation was launched to evacuate the people. The fire officials were seen using cranes to reach people trapped on the upper storeys of the building. Fifteen people have been rescued so far.

The fire is confined to the 3rd and 4th floor of the nine-storey building.

It is not known yet what caused the fire. Eyewitnesses, however, have told NDTV that before the fire started, they smelled burning wires.

The fire fighters have also entered the building and are evacuating people, eyewitnesses said. Dozens are still trapped on the terrace, they said.

Apart from the fire engines, a robot van and an ambulance have also been pressed into the fire-fighting operation.

As of now, there are no reports of anyone getting hurt in the incident.
