ISRAEL has accused Hamas of hacking its troops’ smart phones through a malicious World Cup scoretracking app and two bogus dating apps.
The Palestinian group, which has fought several savage wars with Israel, declined to comment.
But Israeli military said the three Android apps since removed from the Google Play Store were designed to infect troops’ phones with data-stealing malware.
This would then turn on cameras and microphones for live spying.
Fewer than 100 soldiers downloaded the apps.
According to news site Haaretz, Hamas has been able to film what was happening on Israel Defence Forces bases.

Beginning in January 2018, the military’s cyber security unit has received complaints from soldiers and commanders about attempts by social media users recommending soldiers to download so-called Trojan Horse apps.
A senior Israeli spook said Hamas had initially reached out to the soldiers through Facebook, often posing as young and sexily dressed women before moving the relationship over to the WhatsApp texting service.
But now a new plot included two social-networking apps — WinkChat and GlanceLove — as well as a football app for World Cup fans called GoldenCup, which provided live streaming of the adjournment.
Following dozens of reports from soldiers receiving unusual messages, the military launched operation “Broken Heart”.
