Best game: Northwestern at No. 25 Stanford, 4 p.m., FOX.
The 3 p.m. hour features all sorts of debuts. Jacob Eason will get his first start for No. 13 Washington on the Pac-12 Network at 3 p.m. against Eastern Washington.
No. 15 Penn State debuts a new starting quarterback in former Cincinnati St. Xavier star Sean Clifford as the Nittany Lions host Idaho at 3:30 on BTN. Mack Brown also returns to the sidelines for North Carolina at 3:30 on ESPN as the Tar Heels face South Carolina in Charlotte.
Also at 3:30 on ABC, Tua Tagovailoa and No. 2 Alabama open their season against Duke. The Blue Devils lost Daniel Jones to the NFL and former backup Quentin Harris gets a very difficult first opponent as the starter.
The game of the late afternoon is in California as reigning Big Ten West champion Northwestern meets No. 25 Stanford. The Wildcats haven’t officially named their starter, with TJ Green, the nephew of former NFL quarterback Trent Green, and former five-star prospect Hunter Johnson, a Clemson transfer, listed atop the depth chart. Stanford has some major offensive production to replace but does return an experienced starting quarterback in K.J. Costello.
The best way to watch will be to watch the early part of Washington-Eastern Washington, the flip to the start of Penn State-Idaho before turning to Fox for Northwestern-Stanford. If you want to watch Alabama-Duke, it’s best to get to it early because of the Crimson Tide’s high-octane passing game before it gets out of hand.
