Yadav, who had congratulated both parties after their alliance was announced, is scheduled to meet SP president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday.
Saying that as someone younger to both leaders, he had come to take their blessings, Yadav took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that there was an undeclared emergency in the country.
“Lalu ji had hoped that there should be a mahagatbandhan even in UP assembly elections and had said that SP and BSP should contest elections together,” he said, talking of his father and former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav.
Yadav said that he held nothing personally against PM Modi and that they had been critical of RSS and BJP even before Modi came to power. However, this was a fight of ideals and principles. “They are playing around with the Constitution. There are attempts to end reservation entirely. They want to replace Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s Constitution with Nagpuria kanoon. We will not allow that to happen,” he said.
The former Bihar deputy CM also said that BJP was bent upon destroying constitution institutions in the country and was misusing government machinery to target its political opponents. “Lalu ji is in jail because he refused to bend before BJP. They filed a case against me when I was just 13 or 14. For a matter pertaining to 2004 or 2005, a case was filed against me in 2017. In this matter, Nitish chacha also played a role,” he said, referring to NDA ally Nitish Kumar who had contested Bihar assembly elections in an alliance with RJD before switching sides.
Yadav said that BJP similarly used CBI against SP after the alliance was firmed up, raking up an old mining case against Akhilesh Yadav.
