Netflix has the most extensive library of movies and TV shows when compared to other OTT platforms. The main reason for this is that Netflix keeps adding a lot of exciting shows and movies every month for its users to enjoy. Like every major online platform, Netflix uses algorithms to suggest you shows based on your watch history and searched content. However, Netflix has now started testing human-curated suggestions on its platform.
Netflix Human Curated Suggestions On iOS
Netflix is testing feature where instead of algorithms, specialized people will recommend you shows/ movies based on the ‘collections’. The collections are organized based on similarities like genre, tone, etc.
“If you’re involved in the A/B test, you’ll see a pop-up the next time you open Netflix. It takes the place of the ‘My List’ queue at the top of the app, which some subscribers might not appreciate. (My List is still accessible in the ‘More’ tab),” The Verge reported on Friday.
Netflix said that this is just a testing phase in iOS devices and that this recommendation feature may or may not become permanent.
“We’re always looking for new ways to connect our fans with titles we think they’ll love, so we’re testing out a new way to curate Netflix titles into collections on the Netflix iOS app,” Netflix told TechCrunch. “Our tests generally vary in how long they run for and in which countries they run in, and they may or may not become permanent features on our service.”
Twitter user Iger Higgins (@ItsJeffHiggins) tweeted images of how the collection section looks like last week.
“I know there’s a lot that’s been speculated about us going after them. We’re not; we’re looking to occupy space. That’s a growth opportunity for the company and growth in terms in terms of consumption,” Iger said. “We’ve always believed there’s plenty of room for both of us to thrive in this marketplace.”
For Netflix, this test is in an attempt to enhance user experience. Recently, Netflix added three new categories titled “Brand New,” “Coming This Week,” and “Coming Next Week”. These are useful for users to know when their favourite shows are coming on the platform.
