The best of social media from Miami football first practice – Canes Warning

The season is finally here as the Miami football team had its first practice on Friday night. Hurricanes social media was abuzz with news from opening night.

The first practice of the season for the Miami football team was 29 days before the Hurricanes kick off with Florida on August 24 in Orlando. The information came fast and furious from the first practice of the season. Media covering practice and some of the 1,000 fans fortunate enough to be there posted on social media.

The biggest question on the minds of fans and the media is who will be the Miami starting quarterback against the Gators. Tate Martell began practice taking snaps with the first team. After a break, N’Kosi Perry was with the first team. Speculation has been that the competition to be starter will primarily be between those two.

Jarren Williams is still very much in the competition with Martell and Perry to become the starter. All three have strengths and flaws they bring to the position as the Miami QB. It will come to do what Manny Diaz and new offensive coordinator Dan Enos feel most comfortable with under center against the Gators.

All three QBs had some positive moments on Friday. Williams reportedly has the highest ceiling and is the most accurate of the three Hurricanes QBs. He was able to show his accuracy off in practice on a good throw to junior wide receiver Mike Harley.

There has been some speculation during the 2019 offseason that one of the Miami QB, most likely Williams, could transfer if not selected as the starter this fall. The Hurricanes have created depth amongst the signal-callers. Manny Navarro of The Athletic tweeted the QBs working during drills.

New strength and conditioning coach David Feeley has made a huge impact on the Miami football program. The players who put in the most work during the offseason were subtly rewarded according to Manny Navarro of The Athletic.

One of the biggest questions marks for the 2019 season is who replaces Gerald Willis at defensive tackle next to Pat Bethel. Miami also lost defensive end, Joe Jackson. The Hurricanes will replace Jackson with one of the deepest defensive end rotations in the country. Navarro tweeted the defensive line Friday.

Former Miami center Kelvin Harris stated that Miami has the best defensive talent in the country in 2019.

Scott Patchan has battled with injuries and position changes throughout his Miami career. According to Navarro, Patchan had the play of the day on defense during the Hurricanes first practice.

The Miami Hurricanes broadcast team of Joe Zagacki and Don Bailey Jr. had their own observations of what went on Friday night. Bailey is a former Miami Hurricanes center. They analyzed the overall atmosphere during the first practice, the QB play and how the offensive line looked.

Manny Diaz stated post-practice he is always trying to build the connection between the fanbase and the Miami football team. Chris Fischer from NBC6 posted a video of Diaz speaking with reporters.

The fans being a part of practice gave the players the feel of what it will be like to perform in front of a crowd. Unfortunately, that had to be cut short when the lightning alarm went off. Thankfully practice continued but without the fans because of the Soffer Indoor Practice facility.

The Miami football team will be back at the Greentree Practice Fields and the Soffer IPF on Saturday. They will be able to focus more on the task at hand of preparing for the season with their first practice behind them.
