Thieves have targeted a Canberra cafe overnight, using a table to smash a window before stealing tills, an iPad and a cash box.

Teddy Picker’s Cafe owner Caleb Evans said his business partner arrived at the Campbell cafe about 4.30am on Wednesday to discover the floor covered in glass.

He estimated the break-in would cost the business “a couple of grand”.

“A huge window has been taken out using one of the tables from outside, and they’ve come in and ripped out the tills and taken an iPad and cash box with change in it,” Mr Evans said.

Police were on the scene about 6am, and after a quick clean-up, the cafe was trading again by 8am.
