What will Android P be called? (Poll of the Week) – Android Authority (blog)

Last week’s poll summary: Out of over 5,000 total votes, 49.7 percent of our readers would choose the Huawei P20 Pro, while just 35.4 percent would choose the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. 9 percent said they can’t decide, and the remaining 5.9 percent said they wouldn’t choose either phone. Harsh.

Google has a ton of great options this year for the Android P name, unlike the last two years when the decision was harder to make. Android N was probably the hardest codename to come up with, since Nutella and nougat were just about the only two options to choose from. Android O was an easier decision, but only because Oreo is one of the only o-named desserts out there. Do you think Google was really going to call it Android 8.0 Ontbijtkoek?

That shouldn’t be an issue this year though. There are so many dessert names that start with “p,” we had a hard time narrowing it down to just a few options. Android Popsicle, Android Pancake (my favorite), Android Peppermint, and Android Parfait are our top choices. We also included Android Pie, which encompasses Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie, and any other p-named pies you can think of.

Also note that we didn’t include Android Pop-Tarts or Android Pudding on the list. While Pop-Tarts would allow Google to sign a licensing deal with another big brand name, the plural Pop-Tarts might make for an awkward name. The Pop-Tarts brand might not let Google go singular, and Google has never done a plural name. Android Pudding would be a great option too, but we think Google would have a hard time coming up with a statue idea for that one.

What’s your choice for the Android P name? Cast your vote in the poll below, and feel free to add a comment if your option isn’t listed here.
