Most of us will admit to spending more time than we should on our phones.
Whether it’s messaging loved ones, watching videos on YouTube or refreshing our social media feeds over and over again, most of us never go too long without looking at that screen.
But there are a group of people we very rarely see checking their phones – the Royal Family.
Occasionally Meghan Markle , Prince Harry and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are spotted with their iPhones, but not when they’re out and about on official duties
According to a royal etiquette expert there are a couple of reasons why Kate doesn’t check Whatsapp when she’s out and about, and why Meghan isn’t snapping photos.
Myka Meier told Thrive Global: “Just like most high-ranking professionals would do in a formal business environment, the royals leave their phones in a pocket or handbag.”
But she also believes that by having phone-free time, Kate, Meghan, Wills and Harry are supporting mounting evidence of the negative effects of mobile phone addiction and attachment.
During her Royal Tour of Australia last year, Meghan said she felt ‘free’ after giving up her social media accounts when she married Prince Harry.
A well-wisher who had a chat with Meghan on Sydney’s Bondi Beach said: “She said a really beautiful quote. She said “flattery and criticism run through the same filter”.
“She said it was very freeing that she no longer has social media.”
